ALL ABOUT HD

Close to ten years after our first shooting in High Definition, the situation is still not very clear: a vast majority of households now own flat screens that can display High Definition (1920x1080 pixels) or "semi" High Definition (1280x720), i.e. images size 2 or 1 megapixel, while the resolution of a DVD is only 0.4 Megapixel: when one has seen a few programs in full HD, one finds incredibly blurry the images we’ve been looking at for 50 years!

But most people are unaware that they just have to buy a Blu-Ray player(which also reads DVD) to take advantage of the tremendous improvement offered by Blu-Ray discs, and even to some extent by DVD , which are "upscaled" by the player. On can buy one starting at 60 euros in major retailers.

From the moment a program has been shot in High Definition (which is the case of our films since film 17-PATAGONIE) several criteria must be met:
• Publishing in High Definition : it is the case with Blu-Ray discs.
• Reading: for Blu-Ray, you need a Blu-Ray player(see above). HD video files downloaded can, themselves can be read with some multimedia hard drives.
• The connection between the reader and the screen will almost always with an HDMI cable (at least not with a "video" cable withred, yellow and white ends, which transmits only the low resolution , or with a SCART !
• TV: Check that your monitor is "Full HD" 1080 lines, or at least "HD Ready" by 720 lines. This resolution is usually sufficient if your screen is less than 80 cm (32 inches) diagonally.
